As Derrick was walking out of the bank building that evening he saw Abraham on the phone talking. He headed for the parking lot exit.

Abraham caught up with him, “I’ve been asking around but with no luck.”

“It’s fine,” said Derrick, there must be some deals out there, and “Do you want to stop by the Food Hub with me? I imagine there must be some great deals on fast food today.”

“I can’t refuse an offer like that.”

5 Minutes Later:

They walked in and the place was packed.

Derrick turned to Abraham, “Seems like a lot of people had the same thing going through their minds as I.”

Abraham smiled, “True.”

They walked past the counters looking at the overhead displays and all displays in the room for signs of a special offer. There was none.

“My budget is 12,000 shs for you,” said Derrick.

“Thanks.”

Abraham got a plate of chips and a chicken breast.

Derrick got a plate of chips and a hotdog.

They scanned the room looking for a place to sit.

A father and his two children, who were dressed in the Kabojja Junior School uniform, stood and walked away.

Derrick placed his tray on that table.

Abraham did the same.

30 Minutes Later:

Abraham yawned and looked Derrick in the eyes, “Thank you once again.”

“You’re welcome.”

Abraham reached into his pocket and handed Derrick a piece of paper, “This is the name of a colleague of mine who works at G4S. Tell him what happened. He may ask you a few questions just to help with the investigation.”

Derrick smiled, “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

Derrick stood, “Time for me to head home.”

“I’m going to sit here for a while and think.”

“Think in a noisy place like this.”

“Yes. I wish Kampala city had green and quiet spaces in the middle of town.”

Wednesday 9th May 2018:

6:00 AM:

Derrick stopped by his favorite breakfast joint in Ntinda Trading Center and ordered chapati and liver for a change. He usually asked for chapati and beans.

The waiter brought his request to the table he was seated at two minutes later.

“Thank you,” he said as she placed the tray on the table.

“Enjoy,” she replied smiling.

He picked a roll of chapati and dipped it into the liver gravy, tasty. On finishing the first roll, he picked the second roll and dipped it into the gravy as he ate. He picked a fork beside the white plate and drove it into one of the pieces of liver. He placed it on his tongue and started to chew.

He picked a serviette and spat the liver on it. He grabbed the cup of tea on the table and gulped it all. Yuck. He called the waiter.

She came stopped in front of him, “Your liver is terrible. It tasted so rotten I nearly vomited.”

“I’m sorry sir. It won’t happen again.” Funny how customers complain at waiters as if it’s the waiter who cooks the food.

“It had better not happen.”

Frank. An idea came to mind, “Please pack the liver for me without any soup and a chapati.” Frank is going to get served.
